Google Images helps increase traffic through image search

HT Vũ Ngọc 30 Apr, 2025 Google Marketing

The latest update to Google Images creates a new way for website owners to drive traffic through their images.

Google is adding more context to images in search results, which gives website owners a new opportunity to drive traffic through image search.

Launched this week, a new feature in Google Images also provides insight into what will appear in images.

Information about people, places, or things related to the image is pulled from Google’s Knowledge Graph and displayed below the image when users click on it.

  • The Knowledge Graph is Google’s semantic database. It’s where entities are related to each other, attributes are assigned, and placed in context within a topic or specific ontology.

More context = More clicks?

Google stated that this update is aimed at helping searchers explore topics in more detail.

One way searchers can explore topics in more depth is by visiting the website where the image was found and introduced.

The added context could make images more appealing to click on. Google has added meta descriptions to image search results.

Results in Google Images are sourced from websites, but the corresponding events for each image are drawn from Google’s Knowledge Graph.

We can simply imagine that the image is from your website, but the related information is provided by Google. For example, Google might provide information from Wikipedia.

On one hand, this gives website owners some control over the information displayed beneath their images in search results.

On the other hand, Google is providing searchers with more information about the image, which could lead to more clicks on the image source.

Perhaps the best part of this update is that it requires no action from website owners.

More opportunities to drive traffic.

If you’re lucky enough to have content included in Google’s Knowledge Graph, you now have more chances for those links to appear in search results.

Google has stated:

“Events in the knowledge graph come from a variety of sources that aggregate factual information. In addition to public sources, we are licensed data to provide information such as sports scores, stock prices, and weather forecasts.”

“We also receive factual information directly from content owners in many ways, including from those who propose changes to the knowledge panels they’ve submitted.”

Providing your business information to Google’s Knowledge Graph is something you should do if you haven’t already. Local businesses will benefit most from this update.

This is especially true if you run a type of business that requires a large number of images to be uploaded to your website.

Then, information about your knowledge graph along with a link could be displayed under your images in Google search results.
