Steps to Create a Facebook Advertising Account from A to Z

I. Types of Facebook Advertising Accounts

Currently, users can create two types of Facebook advertising accounts: personal advertising accounts and business advertising accounts.

1. Personal Advertising Account

A personal advertising account, also known as a Personal account, is the most commonly used type today and is the default account when you first create a Facebook profile.

This account represents a specific individual and provides all basic functions such as posting articles, photos, videos, and receiving interactions like likes, shares, comments, etc. With this type of account, you can run advertisements for small, simple needs.

2. Business Advertising Account

A business advertising account, also known as a Business account, is a more specialized type. This account does not have a personal user profile, and you cannot perform interactions like liking, sharing, or chatting as with regular personal accounts. It is typically used to develop brands, manage Facebook Fanpages, create events, etc.

III. Factors to Prepare Before Creating a Facebook Advertising Account

  • You need to have a personal Facebook account verified with a phone number at least 10 days before creating a Facebook advertising account.
  • The personal Facebook account must have complete personal information in the profile and should not have run ads before.
  • Have a Visa/MasterCard credit card or a MoMo account to link and pay for advertising costs.
  • Only use a single personal account to run ads to avoid Facebook locking the account due to IP duplication.

IV. Creating an Advertising Account

Step 1: On your personal Facebook page, select the “Ads” option in the interface.

Step 5: Fill in all payment information and select “Save” to complete the steps for creating a personal Facebook advertising account.


Step 6: Finally, Facebook will send you an email for verification; go to your inbox to verify.

2. Creating a Business Advertising Account

2.1. Creating a Business Account

First, log in to your personal Facebook account. Then, visit https://business.facebook.com to start creating a Facebook Business advertising account.

Step 1: On this page’s interface, click “Create Account.”


Step 2: A small window will appear. Here, name your Business account and click “Continue” to proceed.


Step 3: Fill in your first name, last name, and email in the next window.

Note: It’s advisable to use the same name as your personal Facebook account and the name on your Visa/MasterCard.

Having matching names makes it easier to appeal if the advertising account encounters issues or gets locked.

After that, select “Finish,” and you’ll be taken to a new interface.

2.2. Creating a Facebook Business Advertising Account

Step 1: In the Business management interface, select “Business Settings.”

Step 2: In the new window, on the left column, click on “Accounts” and then “Ad Accounts.”

Step 3: Click the “Add” button and choose “Create a new ad account.”


If you already have a business advertising account, you only need to “Verify the advertising account” and enter your advertising account ID to complete the process.

Step 4: When a new pop-up window appears, enter the following information: advertising account name, time zone, and currency type.

When setting up a Facebook ad account, two critical factors to pay attention to are the time zone and currency type. You must select these correctly from the start. If you wish to change either later, you will need to create a new ad account.

Setting Up Time Zone in Ads

The time zone of your ad account determines when your ads will reset to a new day. Each advertising campaign should choose a time zone that aligns with the target market’s behavior and strategy.

Selecting the Currency for Facebook Ads

Facebook supports multiple currencies to accommodate ads across different regions. However, in Vietnam, advertisers typically choose between:

  • USD (US Dollar)
  • VND (Vietnamese Dong)

For both Vietnam and international markets, USD is the preferred currency for payments. Based on experience, running ads in USD often results in better performance, especially for newly created accounts, as funds are processed more smoothly.

⚠ Note: If you pay in a currency other than USD, you may incur foreign transaction fees, which are calculated as a percentage depending on your bank.

Facebook Ad Payment Schedule

Facebook charges your advertising costs on either the 30th or 31st of the month.

Additionally, Facebook sets spending thresholds for ad accounts, such as $25, $50, $100, etc.. Once you exceed a threshold, Facebook automatically increases it, allowing you to accumulate more spending before needing to make a payment. For example, after paying your $25 threshold, Facebook may raise it to $50, meaning you can owe up to $50 before your next payment is required.

V. Reactivating a Facebook Advertising Account

Note: This can only be done if your Facebook ad account still displays a red warning message, as shown in the example image.

This means the account is still under Facebook’s review and has not been permanently deleted.

Steps to Reactivate Your Facebook Ad Account:

  • Access Facebook Ads Manager.
  • You will see a notification stating that your ad account is disabled. Click on the blue “Cancel Deactivate” link to restore your account.

VI. Adding a Payment Method to Your Ad Account

Step 1: Select the Billing & Payment section.


Step 2: Select the ad account for which you want to add a payment method.

Step 3: Click on “Add Payment Method” on the right-hand side.

Step 4: Enter your Visa/MasterCard details, including:

  • Card number
  • Expiration date
  • CVV security code

After entering all the required details, click “Continue.” If accepted, Facebook will display a confirmation message along with the card type and the last four digits of your card.

At this point, your Facebook ad account has been successfully created, and you can start running ads normally.

VII. Important Notes When Creating a Facebook Ad Account

  • If you create a personal ad account, be extra cautious with ad policies. Violations can lead to account suspension, depending on the severity.
  • Pay your ad costs on time. Do not accumulate unpaid balances or attempt to evade payments, as this may result in a permanent account ban.
  • Avoid adding PayPal as a payment method. Many users in Vietnam have abused PayPal to avoid payments, causing Facebook to flag accounts using PayPal from Vietnam. Even if you follow all the correct steps, Facebook may still suspend your account.

VIII. Troubleshooting Issues When Creating a Facebook Ad Account

If you cannot create a personal ad account:

  • Check if the email or phone number used has been registered for another ad account.
  • Ensure you have completed all necessary activation steps.

If you cannot create a business ad account:

  • Your business may have already registered an ad account. Try switching to a different account and registering again.

Although the process of creating a Facebook ad account is simple, it directly impacts your ad campaign’s effectiveness. Take the time to research, follow best practices, and prevent potential issues for a smooth experience.
