Facebook ads payment thresholds for beginners

HT Vũ Ngọc 17 Jan, 2025 Facebook Marketing

Advertising costs are always a headache for businesses and marketers on any platform. Among these, marketers pay particular attention to Facebook’s payment thresholds. So, what is a payment threshold? How does the payment threshold work? And what are some important things to consider when increasing or decreasing the threshold? The article below from buybm365.com will help you understand more clearly.

I. Facebook Ads payment threshold

Facebook Ads advertising is one of the effective ways to increase Facebook engagement, enhance brand recognition, and drive sales revenue.

When you run an advertising campaign on Facebook, the cost accumulates until the end of the month. The billing threshold is the amount of money you can spend on ads before Facebook charges you. Once your ad costs reach the billing threshold, Facebook will charge you for that amount. The billing threshold determines when you will be billed for your advertising campaigns based on the amount you’ve spent. The billing threshold helps you reach Facebook’s payment thresholds.

For example: Let’s say you just created your first ad campaign, and your ad account has a default billing threshold of $25. As the campaign begins, the advertising costs accumulate. If your unpaid ad cost reaches $25, Facebook will charge you $25.

Note: If you have an activated ad voucher on your account, Facebook will charge you differently, and you will not see the billing threshold there.

II. Facebook Billing Threshold

The timing of when you are charged for advertising or reach the Facebook billing threshold will depend on the currency unit and payment method you choose to pay for your ads. The frequency of billing will also depend on whether you have reached the billing threshold or not.

III. How Facebook Billing Threshold Works

When you first start advertising on Facebook, the billing threshold is automatically set to a small amount. Once that amount is successfully paid, the balance will be cleared. This billing threshold will increase progressively until the account reaches the final threshold, creating various payment thresholds for Facebook advertising.

IV. How to View Your Facebook Ad Payment Charges

When you track the amount spent on your advertising campaign, you can view the estimated daily ad spend limit in the Ads Manager section. In the Billing section, you can find all the final charges for your ads, including the specific ads you’ve paid for and the exact purpose for which you made the payment, such as running ads to increase awareness or attracting clicks on your ad posts.

V. Billing Thresholds

When running ads on Facebook, your account will be invoiced whether or not you reach the billing threshold.

If you reach the billing threshold, your ad account will be charged at the end of the month. The costs continue to accumulate for all ads until they are paused. Below are the details of Facebook Ads payment thresholds:

2. Attention

  • This example applies to the amount of the billing threshold corresponding to your currency unit. For easier management, it’s recommended to use Vietnamese Dong (VND) as your payment currency. When converting foreign currencies to VND, additional fees may apply. For example, if your Facebook Ads billing threshold is 15 million VND, and you have spent 17 million VND in total on all ads in April, Facebook will invoice you twice: once for 15 million VND when the payment threshold is reached, and another 2 million VND when the 30-day billing cycle concludes.

Sometimes, even if you have paused your ads, Facebook may still charge you. This occurs if you are using a postpaid payment method. Facebook won’t charge you immediately but will deduct the payment from your card on the billing date or when the billing threshold is reached.

VI. Increasing or Decreasing Facebook Payment Threshold

1. How to Increase or Decrease Payment Threshold

You can adjust your Facebook payment thresholds by following these steps:

  • Go to the Billing section in your Ads Manager.
  • Click on Payment Settings.
  • Select Manage.
  • A window will pop up showing your current payment threshold, and you can choose the appropriate threshold and make changes. Enter the new amount you want for your payment threshold.
  • Finally, click on Change Threshold to complete the process.

2. Some Notes

If you want to decrease your Facebook Ads payment threshold, the changes will take effect immediately. However, increasing the threshold may take some time before it can be implemented.

Here’s why:

  • The payment threshold operates based on your ad account’s billing system whenever you reach a specific threshold. Once you reach the set payment threshold and Facebook’s system successfully processes the payment, your desired threshold can be increased. In some cases, you may need to successfully make a payment a few times at the current threshold before Facebook increases it for you.
  • In some instances, your request for an increase may need to be reviewed and go through an approval process. During this review process, your request for a higher threshold may or may not be approved by Facebook. If it’s not approved, you can try requesting an increase again at a later time or submit an appeal.

VII. Check back up Facebook advertising fees

When you want to determine how much money you’ve spent on ads, you can go to the Ads Manager to check your estimated daily spending limit. By selecting the Billing section, you will find all of your final charges, including specific ads you’ve paid for, and the exact purpose of those payments, such as whether the campaign was aimed at increasing awareness or driving clicks on your ads.
